Meet Randy Ashcraft

After the congregation voted Jan. 13 to call him, VBC's new Pastor in the Interim started work officially on Jan. 14.

Charles Randall “Randy” Ashcraft brings 40 years’ experience in various aspects of pastoral ministry—from work with youth and college students, to senior pastorates in four states, to an interim pastorate, to his current position as pastor in residence at the Virginia Baptist Mission Board in Richmond, Va. As pastor in residence, he serves on the VBMB executive leadership team and is responsible for spiritual formation, ministerial health and wellness, and adult retreat ministries.
Before joining VBMB in 2009, he served as senior pastor in the interim for the First Baptist Church of the City of Washington, D.C. Previously, he was a senior pastor for 29 years for churches during times of growth, transition, and mission action in Virginia, Florida, South Carolina, and Texas. He also served on community councils and boards in each city where he was a pastor.
Randy’s specialized training includes certification in intentional interim ministry as well as executive coach training from the Center for Congregational Health in Winston-Salem, N.C.; and continuing education at pastors’ schools at Duke Divinity School, Stetson University, Princeton Theological Seminary, and others. He is a popular guest preacher at churches including First Baptist Church in Richmond, and at Farmville Baptist Church in Farmville, Va.
Randy holds a bachelor’s degree in social sciences from Oklahoma Baptist University; a master of divinity degree from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary; and a doctor of ministry from Texas Christian University. His doctoral project thesis was “Facilitating Transitional Change Through Leadership Development in the Local Church.”
Randy is married to Ann, an Oklahoma Baptist University graduate. She is currently interim minister to children at Richmond’s River Road Church, Baptist, and is also an executive/leadership coach. They have a son, Graham, a Baylor University and Duke Divinity School graduate who is now working on an MBA at City College in New York City, while serving as an academic coach in the school system. Graham is married to Amanda, a staff member working with outreach at the Fifth Avenue Presbyterian Church. Randy and his family enjoy fly fishing, hiking, bicycling, skiing, golf, most team sports—and antique British autos.
