We
are a congregation of Baptist Christians with a tradition of being
progressive, inclusive, and culturally diverse.
We hold dear the historic Baptist principles of the
priesthood of all believers, the individual’s right and responsibility
for his or her own relationship to God separate from any church
hierarchy, and the separation of church and state.
We are affiliated with American Baptist Churches,
the Alliance of Baptists, and the Baptist World Alliance, among
others.
As
the people of God, we gather first to worship our Creator, Redeemer,
and Sustainer. Having a long tradition of liturgical worship, we
also offer a Celtic-influenced monthly service of prayer for healing
and wholeness.
Our response to God’s call does not end with
worship. We actively pursue the disciplines that form us as followers
of Jesus Christ: the inward journey of individual spiritual growth
and the collective outward journey of mission and social justice.
Our programmatic efforts address the needs of children, youth, young
adults, families, and senior adults.
Reaching
out in love to the community, we house the Vienna Baptist Children’s
Center for preschoolers; operate our Lost River Retreat Center in
West Virginia, used by our congregation as well as other churches
and organizations; and provide meeting facilities for other missions,
such as the Shepherd’s Center of Oakton/Vienna, Alcoholics
Anonymous, and other community groups. We also are involved in numerous
mission endeavors in the suburb of Vienna, the metropolitan Washington,
D.C., area, and beyond.
We invite and welcome into our fellowship all those
whom God calls to join us in our pilgrimage of faith.
