Vienna Baptist Children's Center

Mission Statement

VBCC is a ministry of the Vienna Baptist Church open to all young children and their families. Our emphasis is living out God's love by fostering the growth and development of children in a safe, inclusive environment.

History
Vienna Baptist Children's Center began in 1971 as a Mother's Day out program when one of the Women Mission Circles decided to provide a ministry to church mothers with young children. The idea was to provide a safe and fun place for their children one morning a week so they could have some free time. Since then it has grown into a developmental program which serves 100 children a week from 160 families. VBCC is accredited by the National Academy of Early Childhood Programs and recognized by the Ecumenical Child Care Network.

Purpose
VBCC teaches that God is a loving God who made the world and loves all people and expects us to love and care for each other. We provide a nonviolent and multi-ethnic environment of books, pictures, music, dolls and toys. Prayer, religious songs, Bible stories and the teaching of Christian ethics are included in our curriculum. Chapel is provided weekly for three, four and five year olds. The parent is the most important influence in the growth of children. We involve parents through aiding in the classroom and through parent enrichment programs.

Philosophy
A high quality early childhood program provides a safe and nurturing environment that promotes the physical, social, emotional, cognitive and spiritual development of young children while responding to the needs of the family. It is the intentional plan of VBCC to create a climate and curriculum informed by the belief that:

  • children learn and develop in a sequential growth pattern;
  • children are individuals with unique characteristics;
  • fostering the growth and development of children is a partnership between parents and teachers.

Further, VBCC acknowledges that children's play is a primary vehicle for and an indicator of their growth, of which child-initiated, teacher-supported play is an essential component.
